The olive harvest is complete, light pruning begins at Masseria Monache, and good agricultural practices are planned
They entered the olive grove early in the morning, leaned the stairs against the olive trees and armed themselves with scissors and saws, and got lost among the branches. For the inhabitants of the Masseria the light pruning has begun: the dry branches are cut and those that prevent the passage of the light.
From the windows of the rooms of the Bed and Brakfast you can see the olive grove where they are immersed. The guests of the rooms can follow the pruning work in all their phases.
Alberto already thinks of the next treatments that the olive trees require. The previous harvest was not abundant, but produced an excellent quality extra virgin olive oil.
Now, however, we must supply the soil with the right nourishment with natural fertilizers, protect the foliage from pests, pass the copper sulphate on the trunks: the good old agricultural practices, here.
The trees show the after-effects of suffering suffered due to the high summer temperatures and the few rains, but they are already loaded with new vegetation.
Dry branches are burned in place, they will become ash, fertilizer for new life.
Even the citrus grove, thanks to Vito’s loving care, has overcome the summer heat and the first sudden colds. Now he makes a great show of his jewels: oranges, lemons, mandarins and grapefruits, ready to be picked by the guests of Masseria Monache.
